Hi guys! I wanted to take a moment to explain how our site works - not as a warning, or lecture - but to ensure that everyone understands what kind of project Wingbeats is and what keeps it running healthily.
To be completely clear and transparent: Wingbeats is completely volunteer-run. There are no employees currently working for me or the forum. The only paid contributors to our site are the graphic artists who are commissioned for specific design work (such as banners, our logo, and theme artwork). These artists are paid personally by me, out of pocket. Our forum does not, at the time of writing this, accept subscriptions, ads, or donations to pay staff. We state this so there is no confusion about expectations, resources, or obligations.
I want to highlight the differences between being an employee and a volunteer. Employees are hired under a formal agreement or contract - with their duties, hours, wages, and performance expectations defined in writing. Volunteers offer their time and skills freely, without a formal employment contract. Their roles and expectations are community-driven. They receive no pay for their time here. Volunteers contribute because they choose to, not because they are paid! Volunteers participate around personal schedules (work, school, and family). Their availability can change rapidly. This can affect response times, project timelines, and event staffing.
Wingbeats is sustained by the volunteers who choose to give their time to us. At its core, it is a shared creative project built on trust, generosity, and imagination. That's something we're deeply grateful for. If you're passionate about helping more, there is always an opportunity to get involved! And if you're unable to volunteer, your kindness, participation, and constructive feedback are just as valuable.
Much love,
kieer
